The U.S.A.'s worst mass shooting being that of 20th July 2012. The methodically planned shooting rampage engaged
in by neuroscience doctorate student, 24 yr old James Holmes, in a cinema in Denver, Colorado resulting in the
death of 12 cinema - goers and 71 more injured while watching the midnight premier of Dark Knight Rises, the new
Batman film.
Holmes, who has described himself to Police as being the "Joker" who is in the Batman stories the fictional hero's
main adversary, had been collecting an arsenal of weapons and ammunition buying two Glock pistols, a semi-
automatic rifle and a shotgun over the last two months from local guns-stores and 6,000 rounds from websites -- all
purchased legally under U.S. state law. In early July, he ordered the paramilitary bullet-proof clothing, throat and
groin protector and gas mask that he wore on his rampage and in the last few days prior to carrying out the attack,
he dyed his hair a shocking red-orange and rigged up his university apartment with trip wires and home-made
incendiary devices. In May 2011 Holmes moved to the University of Colorado's medical school in Aurora after
graduating with honours from University of California having a doctorate in statistics, a master's degree in bio
statistics and a bachelor's in mathematics from three prestigious Californian universities. so was following his father's
academic footsteps. Holmes was known to be a smart but introverted student.
There were signs in the last few months that life was taking a downward spiral for him, having graduated with honours
being unable to gain employment working at McDonald's before returning to his studies in Colorado. In June this year
he telling the college that he was going to drop out. When reporters broke the news of her son's involvement to Mrs
Holmes in San Diego on Friday morning, she said: "You've got the right person" -- words that some believe may
indicate that she was not shocked to hear that he had done something so shocking. On the back windscreen of what
is believed to be the car of Mr Holmes in the family driveway is a sticker that reads: "To Write Love on Her Arms".
That is the name of a charity that works on depression, addiction, self-injury and suicide. Nobody recalls there being
a romantic interest in his life.
At midnight on Friday whilst Holmes was carrying out the atrocity music started to blare from his apartment and
neighbours downstairs reported the noise nuisance to the non-emergency police but then the female neighbour went
upstairs to knock on his door to complain finding it odd as normally Holmes had been a quiet neighbour. Noticing the
door to his apartment not shut properly she told police she almost opened it but something stopped her doing so at
the last moment which was fortunate as behind the door was the trip wire that was intended to blow up the
apartment. Police now believe that Holmes had set the music on a timer in the hope of eliciting a complaint to police
and luring officers to their deaths. Now in police custody Holmes is in solitary confinement for his own personal safety.
*** Update to above*** Called in the middle of the night to be told of her son's involvement in the Denver shooting
reported to have said "You have got the right person", Mrs. Holmes has today said what she meant by this was they
were speaking with her on the telephone which seems to make sense and shows how initally reports can be released
giving a whole different meaning to the same statement! ~~ Andrew
" I am horrified by this happening but clearly there were very definite signs something was wrong with this man and
that he needed serious help and most clearly is deranged. I am aware the 2nd amendment of the Constitution declares
permission for the bearing of arms but I really do feel that gun - laws in the U.S.A. is an issue that seriously needs
looking at and particularly now in todays society where violent crime is increasingly prevalent all over the world.
Though I do appreciate that this man, had he not acquired his weaponry legally, was being determined for whatever
reason to carrying this atrocity out would have found an alternative means of supplying himself with them.
I am also appreciative of the fact that with the U.S.A. Presidential elections being on the horizon that the current
President Obama cannot vocalise an opinion upon or approach the current gun laws of the nation as in his doing so
would seriously jeopardise his chances of maintaining the Presidency, losing voters in such states as Virginia where gun
law is something highly respected and welcomed as it stands. Hopefully though as I say the new President, even if this
is the current President maintaining his position of leadership, exercises looking into the issue!
My heartfelt condolences go to the family members, loved ones and friends of the victims of this dreadful incident and
my very best wishes for a full and healthy recovery to be made by all of those injured as a result of it!"

Sir Alastair Burnet has died aged 84,yrs at the Beatrice Place Nursing
Home in Kensington where he was being cared for after a series of strokes.
Sir Alistair hosted ITN’s News at Ten at its launch in 1967 and went on to transform it from an energetic nightly
news bulletin to an authoritative, though quirky, national institution associated with his name. The presenter, who last
hosted the nightly ITN bulletin almost 21 years ago, died following a series of strokes. Sir Alastair was also a trusted
face and voice for national occasions, anchoring several general elections and the wedding of the Prince and
Princess of Wales.
Sir Alistair Burnet was later hosted the first interview ever with the Prince and Princess of Wales in 1985 and one
given to off set rumours of a negative press regarding the state of the Royal Marriage. One filmed at the family home
in London, Apartments 8 & 9 at Kensington Palace, one that featured the couple with their children William and Harry
so one illustrating doting parents devoted to each other. The questions and answers in the interview not being
memorable except perhaps 1 when Diana was asked about her feeling regarding their wedding and said "It was
terrifying .. No I'm only teasing ... Am I?" In the engagement interview whilst Prince Charles was proclaiming his love
for his fiance Lady Diana Spencer publicly adding " Whatever in love means?"
" I do remember this interview very well and it was one where my husband and I played a marvellous double act
for the benefit of the cameras though I am quite sure did not fool this very astute journalist, Sir Alistair Burnet, one bit
with our role playing. He was a real gentleman and chosen to conduct it because he was liked, respected and trusted. I
have included the videos in this tribute to him as I am quite sure he would be appreciative of the humour of it as I have
found myself being."

On December 14th, 2012 a 20 year old loner with a history of autistic behaviour, possibly Asperger syndome
necessitating medication, was responsible for a horrific shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary school, Connecticut in
the U.S.A. that left 26 people including the school's Principal and Psychologist, a teacher and 20 children dead.
Adam Lanza shot his mother Nancy dead at the upscale suburban home they shared and then armed with three of
her guns he drove in her car to the school and carried out the massacre before killing himself. His parents separated,
Adam's father Peter Lanza was informed by reporters of the tragic event including the murder of his ex-wife.
Recently re-elected President of the U.S.A,. Barack Obama, saying "Our hearts are broken today"
" Hello,
This news is so horribly shocking and happening so close to Christmas only adding to the horror of it! Adam
very clearly unwell and fighting demons of his own, it is tragic that this having been something recognised,that more
could not have been done to assist him and therefore prevent this tragedy from happening.
My sincerest love and thoughts are with the families and friends of the victims at this time. I can and do
appreciate and understand how you all must be feeling at this dreadful time, a mix of emotions and quite possibly numb
and the only heartfelt consolation being that time is a healer though your loss will never be forgotten but neither
should it be but instead your loved ones lives remembered and celebrated. I hope you also know that they are still with
you and they always will be as you will never be forgotten or forsaken by them!"
